2 Teens Charged In East Brunswick Crash That Seriously Injured 1 Juvenile

Two teens have been charged in connection with a Wednesday morning crash in East Brunswick, New Jersey that left another teen in critical condition. The two juvenile males have been taken into custody and charged with an act of juvenile delinquency for offenses which if committed by an adult would constitute aggravated assault, assault by auto and other offenses. The charges for Juvenile 2 would constitute two counts of aggravated assault and three counts of assault byauto. The investigation is ongoing and both teens will remain detained.

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — Two teens were charged in connection with the crash that took place Wednesday in Ryders Lane, that left another teen in critical condition, Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Chief Frank LoSacco said.

The two juvenile males have been taken into custody and charged with an act of juvenile delinquency for offenses which if committed by an adult would constitute aggravated assault, assault by auto and other offenses, Ciccone said. On Wednesday, around 11:32 a.m., authorities responded to Ryders Lane near Winton Road in East Brunswick after reports of a serious motor vehicle crash.

On arrival, officers found five vehicles involved in the crash, and four of them had sustained damage. A Mercedes SUV overturned and struck a Honda head on as a result of the juvenile’s vehicle impact on the SUV, police said. The driver of the Mercedes was uninjured, the driver and juvenile passenger of the Honda were taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. The driver of the Honda was released from the Hospital Thursday morning, but the juvenile passenger remains in critical condition, Ciccone said. A tractor trailer was also struck in crash, but the driver was uninjured.

The teens were taken into custody and charged with an act of juvenile delinquency for offenses which if committed by an adult would constitute for Juvenile 1, two counts of aggravated assault and three counts of assault by auto, and one count of endangering the welfare of a child. The charges for Juvenile 2, would constitute two counts of aggravated assault and three counts of assault by auto. They are currently being held at the Middlesex County Juvenile Detention Center, Ciccone said.

A preliminary hearing was held Thursday, and it was determined that both teens will remain detained. The investigation is active and ongoing.
