NYC Memorial Day Weekend Weather: Beachgoers Could Be Disappointed
Prepare for a pleasant holiday weekend of sunny skies, but maybe skip the Saturday and Sunday beach plans. The National Weather Service has warned that New Yorkers may be disappointed with the weather this Saturday and Sunday, with sunny skies and less-than-ideal highs for beachgoers. The National Weather Services also warns of rip tides and rip tides, as well as low winds and high surf activity. The weather service lists the rip risk for Coney Island and the Queens beaches as "moderate" for Friday and Saturday, but New Yorkers with the beach in their plans likely will find the weekend a pleasant one.

Sunny skies this Saturday and Sunday will be paired with less-than-ideal highs — for beachgoers, at least — of roughly 70 degrees each day, according to the National Weather Service's forecast. But don't fret, the sandy fun outlook will improve on Memorial Day itself.
New Yorkers adventurous to head into the water will also have another potential problem to face: rip tides.
The rip risk Friday and Saturday is listed as "moderate" for Coney Island and the Queens beaches of Rockaway and Jacob Riis Park, according to the National Weather Service. "Rip current activity will likely be enhanced in vicinity of groins, jetties, and piers," the service's surf forecast warns.
New Yorkers who don't have the beach in their plans, however, likely will find the weekend a pleasant one, although it won't exactly be fitting the unofficial start of summer.
