CHELSEA, NY — The 24-year-old Brooklyn woman found dead in a trash compactor in the basement of a Chelsea building Friday afternoon is believed to have fallen down the garbage chute and no foul play is suspected, police told Patch Sunday.

Surveillance video obtained by NBC4 New York shows the woman, identified as Jaclyn Elmquist, stumbling down 28th Street late Thursday evening as she attempted to open multiple doors.

Elmquist did not live in the building where she was discovered, according to the outlet.

An X user who identified themself as Elmquist's cousin shared a missing person flyer on the platform Friday evening, saying that Elmquist had been missing since leaving a work party in Manhattan Thursday evening and did not come home or show up for work Friday morning. The investigation is ongoing and Elmquist's cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner, police told Patch.
