A 44-year-old man fled from the NYPD after officers were investigating an argument at the intersection of West 33rd Street and 7th Avenue in Manhattan, New Year's Day, causing a vehicle to accelerate and crash into pedestrians, injuring nine, including an officer. The vehicle struck multiple vehicles and then sped off onto the sidewalk of 34th Street, where it hit a food truck, pinning a woman who was walking nearby. The man was caught and taken to New York City Health + Hospitals/Bellevue in critical but stable condition, while six others were injured. One officer was taken to NYU Langone Medical Center for minor injuries and is in stable condition.

MANHATTAN, NY — A man who bolted from the NYPD investigating an argument sped away in a vehicle that careened into seven pedestrians, one of whom was pinned under a food truck, and injured an officer, on 34th Street early New Year's Day, a police spokesperson said.

Officers responding to a possible crime at the intersection of West 33rd Street and 7th Avenue, tried to intervene in an argument that took place in a vehicle driven by a 44-year-old man at around 1:30 a.m., according to police. The vehicle struck multiple vehicles before speeding away westbound onto the sidewalk of 34th street where it struck a food truck causing a 39-year-old woman, who was walking nearby, to become pinned underneath, police said.

The man was caught at 34th Street and 9th Avenue and was taken by emergency services to New York City Health + Hospitals/Bellevue in critical but stable condition, according to police.

The woman was also taken there but in stable condition, police said. Six other people were struck and taken to Bellevue in stable condition, according to police.

One officer was taken to NYU Langone Medical Center for minor injuries and is in stable condition, police said.
