NEW YORK, NY — The 121st annual Coney Island Polar Bear Club New Year’s Day Plunge took place on Monday, with more than 4,000 swimmers braving freezing temperatures to honor the yearly tradition.

Dating back to 1903, the Polar Bear plunge raises funds to support local non-profit organizations specifically located in South Brooklyn, New York. The Atlantic waters were freezing as families and friends welcomed the new year in partaking in the festivities.
