Another blast of winter weather is expected to dump up to 5 inches of snow on the city Friday before giving away to a weekend-long deep freeze, forecasters said. The city is under a travel advisory Friday, as well as a hazardous weather outlook, that warns of a messy evening commute.

"This will be an all-snow event with no changeover in precipitation type," the advisory by the city's emergency management department states. "No impacts are anticipated for the morning commute, but snow and slush-covered roads alongside low visibility are likely for the evening commute, resulting in travel delays."

Accumulating snowfall is expected to begin after 6 a.m. and could fall at a half inch every hour, according to a National Weather Service briefing. Three inches of snow are expected, with up to 5 inches as "reasonable worst case," the briefing states.

The snow is expected to peak between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. before tapering off, but that doesn't mean Old Man Winter is done with the city, the forecast states. An Arctic air mass will keep temperatures near or below freezing through Sunday night, forecasters said.

Blustery winds will lead to wind chills near 0 degrees, according to the forecast. "Frostbite could occur on exposed skin in under 30 minutes," the National Weather Service briefing states.
