NEW YORK CITY — A baker's dozen of muggers beat a 19-year-old straphanger before stripping him of his coat and shoes in a busy Manhattan subway station, police said.

The harrowing assault and robbery early Wednesday inside 59th Street-Columbus Circle station left the teen with minor injuries, for which medics took him to a local hospital, authorities said. The culprits were a crowd of 13 as-yet-unidentified people who NYPD officials said could be seen in a surveillance video running from a subway station.

The attack unfolded as the 19-year-old stood on the station's Uptown-bound D train platform about 1:15 a.m., police said. A crowd of 13 people walked up to the straphanger and struck up a conversation before launching into a repeated assault, officials said.

The attackers forcibly stripped away the teen's coat and sneakers, as well as snatched his phone, authorities said.
