NEW YORK CITY — Good news, parents —New York City has some of America's best maternity hospitals, according to a new ranking.

Five hospitals in the city were named in Newsweek's "America's Best Maternity Hospitals 2023." The list names the top 384 leading hospitals for maternity care for a simple reason: where a baby is born is one of the most important decisions expectant parents can make, the list states.

"The best hospitals provide mothers and babies with the highest quality care from pregnancy through birth and even postpartum," it states. The list of hospitals and maternity care centers is divided into two categories, with 159 institutions earning five-ribbon status and 225 with four-ribbon status.

Newsweek partnered with the global research and consumer data company Statistica to rank the hospitals. The ranking is based on a nationwide online survey of hospital managers and health care professionals, including neonatal specialists and OB/GYNs asking their recommendations for maternity care; key performance data on maternity care, including cesarean birth rates; and patient satisfaction data.
