Top 10 Ways To Stay Safe And Well NYE In NYC
The New York City Health Department has issued a top 10 countdown to help residents stay healthy as they celebrate the arrival of 2026. The New York City Health Commissioner, Dr. Michelle Morse, has highlighted ten ways to stay safe and well for New Year's Eve, including avoiding illness, practicing safer sex, and avoiding flu, and RSV by getting vaccinated and using preventative measures such as masking, washing hands often, and covering coughs and sneezes. Decide ahead of time how much you plan to consume and travel if traveling, including planning a designated driver, public transportation, or taxi, and choosing safer sex strategies such as condoms, PrEP, and emergency PEP to prevent HIV, and doxy-PEP to treat sexually transmitted infections. If using drugs or mixing drugs and alcohol, use naloxone, which can reverse an opioid overdose, is available at no cost from community-based programs and for purchase over the counter at pharmacies. The Health Department's Sexual Health Clinics offer low and no-cost HIV and STI services to anyone age 12 or older, regardless of immigration status. If you or a loved one is in crisis or seeking mental health resources, contact the 988 helpline.
