NEW YORK CITY — A 61-year-old man who stabbed a woman in the chest in Times Square last month has been indicted, prosecutors announced Monday.

Cyril Destin has been charged with first degree attempted assault, second degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon, prosecutors said. On May 11, at 6:10 p.m., a 36-year-old woman was walking past a bodega on West 43rd Street and Eighth Avenue when Destin lunged at her with a knife and stabbed her in the chest, prosecutors said.

After the attack, Destin sat back down on his walker while continuing to hold the knife despite orders from police officers to drop the weapon, prosecutors said.

The 36-year-old victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where she was treated for her stab wound, prosecutors said.

The woman had been visiting on the city on a school trip with her daughter and her friend, prosecutors said.
